The Moon

Category: Nature, Night, Outdoor

Moon is a Germanic word, related to the Latin mensis (month). The Moon is Earth’s only natural satellite and the fifth largest satellite in the Solar System. The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days (the orbital period), and the periodic variations in the geometry of the Earth–Moon–Sun system are responsible for the phases of the moon, which repeat every 29.5 days. The Moon’s diameter is 3,474 kilometres (2,159 mi), a little more than a quarter of that of the Earth. Thus, the Moon’s surface area is less than a tenth that of the Earth (about a quarter the Earth’s land area, approximately as large as Russia, Canada, and the United States combined), and its volume is about 2 percent that of Earth. The pull of gravity at its surface is about 17 percent of that at the Earth’s surface.   -   Wikipedia

Anderson Bridge

Category: Night, Outdoor

Month : Nov ‘08                                                                    Location : City Hall, Singapore

This bridge, found over the Singapore River, is called the Anderson Bridge. The bridge was completed in 1910 , and was named after the Governor of the Straits Settlements and High Commissioner for the Federated Malay States (1904–1911), Sir John Anderson, who officially opened the bridge on 12 March 1910. It formed part of the Singapore Grand Prix’s Marina Bay Street Circuit, which debuted on 28 September 2008.

In the 1990s, due again to the increasing vehicular traffic flow between the northern and southern bank of the Singapore River, the Esplanade Bridge was built to provide faster access between Marina Centre and the financial district of Shenton Way. Construction of the 260-metre long bridge in front of the mouth of the Singapore River began in early 1994 and was completed in 1997.

Anderson Bridge currently still serves as a vehicular bridge, and connects the financial district directly to City Hall. The bridge is located near The Fullerton Hotel (previously Fullerton Building) and the former Merlion Park.  -  Wikipedia

Jupiter & Venus

Category: Night, Outdoor

Month : Nov ‘08                                                                               Location : City Hall, Singapore

I took these pictures on 28th November 2008 when Jupiter & Venus can be seen clearly with the naked eye. The day was one of those days when both Jupiter and Venus were quite close with each other. I took the opportunity to take a few shots of them over the Singapore sky. The building I used over here is the Old Supreme Court building located in City Hall. There was a Jupiter, Venus and moon conjunction on 1st December but I couldn’t get a good shot of it as it wasn’t a clear sky during the event. It was supposed to be a smiley face but well, it didn’t really happen here.. ;)

The Old Supreme Court Building is the former courthouse of the Supreme Court of Singapore,
before it moved out of the building and commenced operations in the new building on 20 June 2005 .
The building was the last classical architecture building to be built on the former British colony.
Built in front of the historical Padang grounds between 1937 and 1939, it was designed by Frank Dorrington Ward of the he Public Works Department, and was his last and most significant work.
The building is planned to become an arts and cultural centre in future, with plans to refurbish the building.  – Wikipedia
